Two Simple Questions to Calm Anxiety & Overthinking

Have you ever felt completely consumed by worry or anxiety about something that hasn’t even happened yet? Your mind racing, trying to figure it out, plan it out, solve it ahead of time?
If so, here are two powerful questions you can ask yourself:
Is this happening now?
Often, our anxious thoughts are about something in the future—a flight, a job interview, a conversation, an event. But when we stop and ask, Is this actually happening right now?, we create space between ourselves and the mental movie playing in our head. If the answer is no, then there’s nothing to fix or prepare for in this moment.
Will thinking about this change the outcome?
The mind loves to convince us that worrying is useful. That if we just think about it enough, we’ll be better prepared. But when we really look at it, we see that all the mental effort doesn’t actually influence what happens. Life unfolds in real time, and we’ll meet it then—with the natural confidence, clarity, and resilience that’s built into us.
These two questions are simple, but they point to something profound: You don’t have to live inside the storm of your thoughts. You can come back to now where your ability to cope lives.
