Is the robot mind running your life?

Updated: Mar 6, 2023

We can think of our robot mind as the flavour of thinking that tells us we ‘need/should/must’ do anything. It would have us believe we have to go-go-go and do-do-do….all the time. We become very outward focused and this tends to fuel addictions, behaviours and habits we would rather step away from. It usually feels urgent and important to take notice of.

It’s not all bad news! Our robot mind is also useful: it helps us to carry out tasks without our full attention such as cleaning our teeth, chopping an onion or getting dressed. The trouble comes when this ‘automatic pilot’ or robotic mode starts to dominate other areas of our life such as over-thinking our ‘problems’, dealing with emotions or relationships.

See if you can start to bring some awareness to when the robot of your mind has taken over your consciousness. Feel into – is it really helpful at this time? Sometimes just this awareness is enough to break the spell of the robot.

Of course, in reality all thought comes from the same energy source, the power or Principle of Thought. We can’t really divide this energy into ‘robot mind’ or ‘wisdom’ or ‘intuition’. However metaphors can be a useful way for us to grasp this quite unknowable, indefinable energy.
