What the weather can teach us about the nature of experience

Updated: Mar 6, 2023

It was raining here this morning in Brighton, and I was thrilled to have another opportunity to See that our experience of life works from the inside out. The power of thought in action.

I felt pretty neutral about the rain. Which equals ‘not a lot of thinking about the fact that it is raining’. However my 6 year old son experienced a lot of anxiety about the rain, and REALLY wanted it to stop raining, as he hates getting wet (or he believes he hates getting wet).

Already, 2 different experiences of the same rain.

On the school run I met one friend who moaned about the rain, and another who said “Oh I love the rain and getting wet!”.

Same rain, 2 more experiences of it.

We are never feeling life directly, we are ALWAYS feeling our thinking about life. And as the power of thought is an ever-changing energy, we are blessed with an infinite possibility of what experiences will come our way.

We do love to talk/moan about the weather in the UK! Next time there is lots of chat around you about the weather, see if you can notice the variety of experiences people are having about the same weather. And see if you can notice that the weather is in and of itself 'neutral', it's only your mind (innocently) creating whatever experience of it you have.
